Saturday - Three Countries Trail!

Trail day! More idiot time! Once again we’ve made a plan to ensure we get to the castle in time to eat breakfast and catch our bus. When I board the bus I start getting pumped. Cher’s “Believe” is playing and the disco lights are flashing. We are on a party bus! But this bus driver has one 40 minute CD of English pop songs from the 80s and 90s and that is our entire soundtrack for the two hour drive there and the two hours back. If I ever hear Baltimora - Tarzan Boy ever again I’m going to end it.

Also, our bus caused a nasty traffic jam on a narrow mountain pass when he couldn’t figure out how to enter the parking because the gate was down. Like it was so bad people walked up the road to figure out what went wrong. A pair of cyclists got stuck because they thought they’d be able to get around until they got to the nose of the bus and the gate and like 10 people trying to figure out what to do. Some aggressive driver thought he was slick driving up the shoulder to pass us on the inside too. The road ends and then there’s a gate! Where are you going to go?

The trail itself was really excellent. We were on some awesome wooded trails and despite it feeling like whe had a lot of uphill climbs (575 ft) it was mostly downhill (1000ft)! We ran through the intersection of Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. There was a long line of tourists for the multiflag photo spot so we ran around the outside of it. Except Pink! Its another hot day and I chugged my entire water bottle during the first four miles. When we get our beer near I am ready for a cold beer and water.

Circle ran way too long. I generally avoid weekend circles and go take a nap somewhere but when you get bussed to trail there isn’t anywhere to take a nap. I did get a little snooze on the ride home. Listening to “Tarzan Boy” a couple more times.

Our closing circle in the parking lot at Moresnet-Chapelle, BE. Check out those buses!

Tonight’s theme was Knights in Distress and Damsels in Shining Armor. I already made a gold chainmail dress inspired by Tina Turner in Thunderdome last year so I recycled that. It is too sexy for publication on this website. All of the ladies’ costumes are too sexy for publication on this website. Here’s the boys instead:

Pink, Cool Hand, Pastor, Kicky, Table It, and 3dog showing a little leg

Poor Michael isn’t feeling well and stays back to rest. I decide to enjoy the live band and dance. At one point, one of the singers announces, “This one is for the ladies!” and starts, “I’m Every Woman.” A dude tries to dance with me. “This song is for the ladies!” I announce. “Well, I’ll go find another lady to dance with.” “Do it!” No randos allowed when I’m feeling myself.

Not to name any names, but two years ago after the Foo Fighters concert, I was tasked with helping walk a very drunk friend back to my car for a ride home. But it was a very long walk and he was too drunk to stand up straight so it was a difficult trek. We noticed he was reaching the limbo style leaning stage so we had an intervention. We cleared out a seat in the center of a table with our group and asked if he wanted to sit with us. Then his cup was surreptitiously passed to me. I dumped out 80% of the beer and replaced it with soda water. It retained a bit of beer color and beer taste and beer froth but very little beer. We then returned it to him. The most difficult part was convincing him that the hayride would be fun. We can’t risk crossing that road at night. I play up the wagon by describing how many cup holders it has, and how it will be a fun ride a few of us will be taking together. Once on the wagon, I still need to keep him seated while it waits to load others. I ask, “how many hayrides have you taken in Europe?” knowing the answer is 0. A rando decides to count how many he’s been on. No one asked you! The trip is a success and we safely get back to the Vakantiepark.
