Yes

In 2015, we decided to torture all pets by taking them to have their photos with Santa. The results were glorious. We started with the angoras, Oscar and Isabelle. Drove home, swapped for the cats Squeek and Circe, and did it all again. The rabbits were very well behaved and the pet shop owner was really impressed by their luxurious coats and found some tiny hats for them to wear. The cats had a terrible time. Cats do not like to go for a car ride and then end up in a scary new space that smells like dogs. Poor Santa had all of Circe’s claws stuck in her leg!

I felt bad for how distressed I’d made the cats (and Santa) so I went to that pet shop again a week or two later and bought a special present for the cats. The Original Scratch Lounge!

It was love at first sight. Squeek could smell the catnip through the shrink wrap and tried to open the packaging himself. I opened it and sprinkled a little catnip and since Squeek didn’t have any front claws, he went to town licking it. For the next few weeks, the cats took turns taking over the lounge. While one cat relaxed in the lounge, the other would stand right next to it, staring in contempt, waiting for their turn. As soon as the lounge was vacated, the other would swoop in and take over.

Squeek christens the Original Scratch Lounge by licking the catnip off of it.

We replaced the insert at least once over its lifetime. We finally decided to dispose of the old scratcher 5 years later in 2020. Squeek may not have had any front claws, but Circe was able to dig in and tear it up. It did break my heart a little bit to send the old one to the trash; in addition to memories of Squeek it also contained a bit of his fur.

Is the Original Scratch Lounge worth the premium price? A simple scratcher is usually only $5. On behalf of the cats, I say yes. The refills aren’t too expensive. The cats think it’s a wonderful bed. Bring your kittens some joy with the Original Scratch Lounge.

You can buy directly from Scratch Lounge or check you favorite pet supply retailer. Especially if that shop took photos of your distressed cats with Santa.
